The Law of Conservation of Energy
Conservation laws are some of the most important laws in science. All conservation laws state that the total amount of some physical dimension can shift around in a closed system, but the total is the same. For this lesson, you will use a roller coaster to track the changes in EGRAV and EK as a coaster moves along the track. At all points along the roller coaster track, the TOTAL MECHANICAL ENERGY (ME) of the closed system is constant.
Get started building your roller coaster simulation to see the Law of Conservation of Energy in action. This simulation is a frictionless setting so no energy will be converted to dissipated Energy!

BUILD A VIRTUAL ROLLER COASTER TO ANALYZE ENERGY CONVERSIONS
You received a copy of the activity in class (it is posted at the bottom of the page if you need another copy).
BE SURE TO READ THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY!!!
If you need clarification on the instructions (or just to check to see if you are doing it correctly), look through the TIPS for the Roller Coaster activity posted below. The 'tips' will help you, but you must read all directions to know how to correctly complete the activity.
